Kathmandu and Lukla Flight

The Classic Everest Base Camp Trekking route traces the traditional trails trodden earlier by the veteran climbers: Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norge Sherpa, and many others. The Everest Base Camp Trek 14 days explores Khumbu Valley and leads to the base of the world’s highest Mt. Everest offering the majestic view of Khumbu glacier and some snow-capped mountains: Mt. Everest Mt Khumbila, Mt. Thamserku, Lhotse, and AmaDablam. The green lush vegetation on trails, birds’ chirping inside the dense forest, and endangered wild animals en-route while trekking inside the Sagarmatha National Park.

This 14 days EBC Trek package provides airport to airport services with 2 nights 3 star hotel in Kathmandu before and after the trek.  A short airstrip 30-40 minutes of scenic flight brings to Lukla: the gateway to the Everest Base Camp. This Kathmandu to Lukla flight is a thrilling experience if you have never flown above the mountains by 15 passenger denier aircraft.

Trek Start Lukla to Namche Bazzar

From Lukla, trekking in the Everest Region trail traces the downhill trail through rhododendron forest and lower Sherpa settlements like Cheplung, Ghat, Phakding, Monjo, and Namche, for couple of days before tracing to the higher elevation.

Namche is the most advanced tourism hub in the Everest Region where trekkers can easily acquire all sorts of amenities required for Everest Base Camp Trek. The hub is also a scheduled destination to adjust AMS before marching further to the higher region. On rest day, we arrange a short acclimatizing hike to Everest View hotel: the highest hotel renowned for the perfect vista of Mt. Everest, Mt. Khumbila, Mt. Thamserku, Lhotse, and AmaDablam. During the day, we even explore Khumjung Hillary School, Kunde Hospital and Syangboche airstrip.

Dingboche final acclimatization

Trekking in the higher elevation above 4,500m is always risky due to AMS. Mountain Mart Treks (MMT) schedule another acclimatization day at Dingboche before tracing to the last human settlements Lobuche and Gorakshep. The summer valley Dingboche is the first village above 4,000m where we acclimatize to adjust the thin air in higher elevation. During this day, we hike to NangkarTshang Gompa and Nangkar Tshang peak, with the astonishing mountain view.

Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp

The last human settlement Gorakshep is a junction from where the trail leads to Kala Patthar on left and Everest Base Camp on right. The highlights of the trek include a 360° mountain view plus Khumbu glacier and spectacular sunrise view over Everest from Kala Patthar summit. The perfect view of Mt. Everest isn’t perceived from EBC; so, MMT arrange early morning hike to Kala Patthar to witness the breathtaking cerulean landscape. Eventually, the Everest Base Camp trek 14 days itinerary commences and concludes with a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and vice versa respectively.

Planning your Classic Everest Base Camp Trek in the legendary Everest region requires proper travel insurance, emergency rescue coverage, and helicopter evacuation support. This world-famous Himalayan adventure takes you up to 5,364 meters at Everest Base Camp and 5,545 meters at Kala Patthar, where altitude sickness, harsh weather, and unforeseen emergencies can occur.

For a safe, secure, and worry-free trekking experience in Nepal, comprehensive high-altitude travel insurance is mandatory.

Travel Insurance for Classic Everest Base Camp Trek

Before starting your journey from Kathmandu or flying to Lukla, ensure your travel insurance policy covers high-altitude trekking up to 6,000 meters.

Your Everest trekking insurance must include:

✔️ High-altitude trekking coverage (above 5,000m)
✔️ Emergency helicopter rescue & evacuation
✔️ Medical treatment and hospitalization
✔️ Trip cancellation & interruption
✔️ Accidental injury & repatriation
✔️ Lost, stolen, or delayed baggage

Without proper insurance, helicopter rescue in the Everest region can cost USD 4,000 to 7,000+, depending on altitude, weather, and location.

Emergency Rescue & Helicopter Evacuation in the Everest Region

The Classic Everest Base Camp Trek route is remote and physically demanding. In case of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), injury, or medical emergency, immediate descent is crucial.

Helicopter evacuation is the fastest and safest rescue option in the Khumbu region.

Rescue Procedure During an Emergency:

  1. Inform your trekking guide immediately.

  2. Our team coordinates with rescue operators and your insurance provider.

  3. Helicopter evacuation is arranged from the nearest safe landing point.

  4. Immediate transfer to a hospital in Kathmandu for treatment.

Most rescues are operated by professional helicopter companies based in Nepal, ensuring quick response across the Everest region.

Why Insurance is Mandatory for the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek?

The Classic Everest Base Camp Trek includes:

✔️ Trekking inside Sagarmatha National Park
✔️ Reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364m)
✔️ Hiking to Kala Patthar (5,545m)
✔️ Exploring Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar & Tengboche
✔️ Remote mountain trails with limited medical facilities

Due to high altitude, unpredictable Himalayan weather, and isolated terrain, travel insurance with emergency evacuation coverage is compulsory for all trekkers.

Important Tips for Everest Trekkers

  • Carry both digital and printed copies of your insurance policy.

  • Double-check the altitude limit mentioned in your insurance coverage.

  • Share your insurance details with your trekking agency before departure.

  • Trek with a licensed, experienced guide for safety and proper acclimatization.

  • Inform your guide immediately if you experience symptoms of AMS.

Choosing the right insurance, rescue, and evacuation plan for the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek ensures complete peace of mind while exploring the breathtaking Himalayas. With proper coverage, you can confidently enjoy panoramic views of Mount Everest, dramatic glaciers, and authentic Sherpa culture without unnecessary risk.

For a safe, secure, and professionally organized trekking experience in Nepal, always travel prepared and fully insured.

During the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, electricity and battery charging facilities are available in most villages along the trail. However, services become more limited and expensive as you gain altitude. This iconic high-altitude trek in the Everest region reaches up to 5,364 meters at Everest Base Camp and 5,545 meters at Kala Patthar, so proper power backup planning is essential.

While trekking through famous Sherpa villages and glaciers inside Sagarmatha National Park, charging services are available in teahouses, especially in Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Gorakshep.

Electricity Availability

Villages such as Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep provide electricity powered by hydroelectric systems or solar energy.

However, trekkers should note:

  • Electricity is not available 24/7

  • Solar power is common at higher elevations

  • Charging may be limited during cloudy or bad weather

  • Dining halls are usually the main charging area

At higher altitudes, power supply becomes weaker and more expensive.

Charging Cost (Per Device)

Charging costs increase as you ascend toward Everest Base Camp.

  • Lukla / Namche Bazaar: USD 2–3

  • Tengboche / Dingboche: USD 3–4

  • Lobuche / Gorakshep: USD 4–6

Charges apply separately for each device, including:

  • Mobile phones

  • Cameras

  • Power banks

  • Laptops (higher cost)

Higher altitude means higher charging prices due to limited solar energy and transportation costs.

Trekking Tips for Power Management

✔️ Carry a high-capacity power bank (10,000–20,000mAh or more)
✔️ Bring spare camera batteries
✔️ Use airplane mode to conserve battery
✔️ Turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not needed
✔️ Keep devices warm inside your jacket (cold drains battery faster)
✔️ Consider a small solar charger for backup

Wi-Fi is available in some lodges along the Everest Base Camp route, but it is paid and often slow due to remote mountain connectivity.

In short, electricity on the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek is basic but manageable with good preparation. By carrying backup power and managing battery usage wisely, you can stay connected and capture unforgettable Himalayan moments at Everest Base Camp without stress.

Helicopter Charter Option

For trekkers seeking comfort or facing flight delays, a helicopter charter to Lukla is a premium and reliable transport option.

Advantages:

Some trekkers choose to avoid Lukla flights by taking a road journey from Kathmandu to Salleri or Phaplu and then trekking to Lukla.

This option:

I just completed one of my dreams of going to Everest Base Camp. I was very pleased to go with Mountain Mart trek. The owner, Dolakh was able to answer the many questions we had before our trip via email. He was very accommodating to my specific schedule.

When we arrived in Nepal from the US, and completed immigration and collected our baggage, we were greeted by our guide Lochan. From that moment on, he truly was our “guide” before, during and after the trek. He always made sure all our concerns and needs were addressed throughout the trek.

The company also provided us with a porters. We had the pleasure of having Dawa as our Porter. He carried our duffel bags all the way up and down the trek and all the stops in between. And when he is not helping carrying our bags, he would join us during some of our hikes to assist us during the hike. He also was great to have around to take the “perfect picture”. And at night he would join us at the dinning room to help service us. He also took the time to make us an apple pie dessert.

I was very happy having Lochan and Dawa as our guide and porter. By the end of the trek, they were like my new brothers who helped me achieve my dreams.

I would highly recommend Mountain Mart Treks if you plan an doing the Everest Base Camp.

We had the best time in Nepal, trekking with Mountain Mart. Dolakh responded very quickly and everything was possible. In Kathmandu we met our guide Ram and our porter Mongol. Everything went very smoothly. Ram was so kind, helpfull and fun to have around. He tought us a lot about Nepalese culture and the mountains. Ram and Mongol made sure everything from sleeping to our daily snacks were perfect. We will come back to Nepal and will definetly do a trekking with MMT (and Ram!) again. Thank you!

This March Myself and a friend trekked to the basecamp of Everest thus making it one of the best experiences we have ever had.

This would not have been possible without the amazing work of the Mountain mart team!

Dolakh the Manager/Director of the company was very quick to respond to all our enquiries.

I had emailed many top rated companies at the time and Dolakh was the most efficient and helpful throughout the whole process.

Calling me via whatsapp on request and emailing all the necessary information and documents very quickly.

He is very Trustworthy And Keeps to his word, making sure we where happy with all our decisions helping us choose the pefect package.

Our Guide (Tilak) and sherpa (Gopal) are by far the best guide and sherpa combo out there.

Fun and caring, always keeping our best interests and welbeing as thier first priority.

TILAK has got 17plus years experience in the Himalayas and knew everything at any point during the trek, making him the fountain of knowledge amongst the the guides. Knowing key facts and information during the trek made our experience a miliion times better.

With his experience his attentivness to our wellbeing and health was essential. Making sure we where eating and drinking right to keep us fit and healthy for the trekking. BEST GUIDE

GOPAL our sherpa was one of a kind. He had the strength of a Yak and a heart of Gold.

Kept close with us during the Trek it made our experience a whole lot better. As majority pther companies would have their sherpas live and eat elsewhere not engaging with clients.

He came 6th in the Everest marathon! Thats the type of Sherpa you want! *LEGEND*

Many thanks to the Mountain Mart team for making this once in a lifetime experience possible.

A very well organised trek. From the minute we landed in Kathmandu we were taken care of! Our very experienced and patient guide Tilak was exceptional, parting with lots of knowledge and making sure that we all walked at our own pace, ensuring our safety! The strong porters were also very good, not only carrying our bags but helping out with meals, walking, helping Tilak monitor our well being, I would thoroughly recommend Mountain Mart Treks and if you can request Tilak as your guide. You wont be disappointed!!!!

My family and I just finished the classic Everest base camp trek with Mountain Mart and had such an amazing trek! Bhoj Raz was our guide and we really enjoyed his company.

He made sure we were were set up from the beginning with the airport pickup, rides, and checked our trekking gear.

Along the trek Bhoj told us some cultural information and was an excellent photographer for us. He set up nice lunch stops for us along the route and assisted with advising us on the best and safest food options. He accommodated all our wishes and even called around to find a guest house with a hot shower! After my Mom fell and was struggling to make the trek, he stayed at her side and held her the whole day to make her comfortable. His conversation and energy on the trip was very refreshing and we left friends!

The day after our return, Bhoj went above and beyond by walking us through town and pointing out good shops for deals. He even helped bargain with the locals to get us the best prices! He is very patient person and a pleasure to be around.

Dolakh, the Managing Director, was very friendly and professional. He explained the trip well and also gave us some great souvenirs! He was generous to let us his personal van for personal trips at a very reasonable rate for unlimited time. We liked their company so much we booked a day excursion with them for another day this trip. Dolakh was also very helpful in advising us on good restaurants around town and the best clinic to go to when I caught a cold and wanted to be checked out.

The trek itself was very challenging but well worth it for the views. My family consists of 3 young adults (26, 29, 30) and my parents (62, 60) and we are an athletic family, with the exception of my mother. She struggled a lot with the extreme inclines and elevation changes. We went December 26th-31st and the weather was pleasant during the day but very cold at night. Hotels are not heated and hot showers/running water in rooms are very unpredictable at this time. Food and drinks along route were safe and very good. This was the perfect time of year because there were hardly any tourists! The villages along the way are well equipped with anything you might need/have forgotten and the locals are friendly and polite.

My family really enjoyed our trip and would highly recommend Mountain Mart to friends and family!

My friends and I just completed an classic everest base camp trek with Mountain Mart Treks. Special shout out to our guide, Prem who took very good care of us during the trek. He kept our spirits up high and arranged everything very well for us. Also shout out to our porters, the trip was made successful because of them. Our duffel bags were always ready in the room before we arrive. Dolakh the managing director went above and beyond, he did all the planning and tried his best to answer all our questions. We would definitely choose Mountain Mart Treks again!

Absolutely Amazing!!!

I have tried to write this review a few times now. It is hard to put into words what an amazing experience it was booking, planning and participating in an Everest Base Camp trek with Mountain Mart Treks. Dolakh was world class to work with. He was always available to answer my questions and to assist with my requests. He runs a top notch hotel in Thamel. We stayed there multiple night pre and post trek. Ido Nabin was our guide. He also provided top notch service. Our porters name was Bidel (spelt wrong I am sure). He always made sure our equipment was handled with care and it was always awaiting us at our next destination.

Quite frankly I can not recommend this agency strongly enough. If you are looking for an amazing experience in Nepal, reach out to this company. You will not be disappointed!!!

Trekking EBC - Thank you Bhola

We did the trek to EBC November 24 until middle December with Mountains Marts. The best of our trip of course was our guide Bhola who did our trip in Everest spectacular!!!
We are very happy with the service and support provided by Bhola; without him, the experience wouldn’t have been the same.

Bhola is a kind, sensitive, and noble person. He paid attention to every detail and showed us a piece of Nepal with great care and affection.

Without a doubt, an excellent service that we highly recommend, and if we ever do it again, it will definitely be with him.

Once again, thank you.

We thoroughly loved our experience with Mountain Mart! Our guide Nabin was so very helpful, patient, knowledgeable, and kind. He catered to all our needs and really went to bat for us when problems arose. We spent less time with our porter Prem, but he was wonderful as well. The views were absolutely stunning! If I return to Nepal for any additional treks, I will definitely use Mountain Mart!

Everest Base Camp trek

We booked our trip through Mountain Mart and we stayed at the Everest Boutique Hotel, the hotel was very clean and staff were friendly and welcoming.
The food was delicious and was a reasonable priced, we had a day trip around Kathmandu the guide was super friendly and very knowledgeable. The following day we headed off to Lukla to begin our Everest base camp trek, our guide Ram was in our opinion the best guide on the mountain from the beginning picking us up from the airport and by our side throughout the entire trek ensuring we had the best rooms, food and experience anyone could ask for. Ram is very attentive approachable and super friendly, while walking along the trails Ram was very knowledgeable with the surroundings everyday at our new location Ram would take us exploring to a monastery or a small hike to aid in our acclimatisation and for the most spectacular views. Our porter Biha was also outstanding he went above and beyond walking with us on our acclimatisation days to ensure our safety and always at the tea houses with our bags prior to our arrival. Overall this was the most memorable and best trip of our lives we highly recommend Mountain Mart and Ram to take you on an adventure of a lifetime.

Excellent guide and excellent logistics

My trip was organized by Mountain Mart and I stayed in in the Everest Boutique Hotel in Kathmandu, which is an excellent hotel with good food and modern clean bathrooms.
From there we had a track towards Everest Base Camp. All logistics where organized perfectly. A helicopter was arranged for us when the flight towards Lukla was canceled. Flights towards Lukla frequently get canceled because of bad weather as the runway in Lukla is short but the heli will almost always fly. The cost for the heli are around 500$ per person. All logistics where organized perfectly by Mr Dolakh (manager of the Everest Boutique Hotel) and my excellent tracking guide Bishal Kulung who knows the region well and helps to deal with everything even medical problems like high altitude sickness. To avoid that you need normally 11 days to reach base camp and come back. We took al helicopter down to shorten the trip which was part of our package and they included a nice fly by of the Everest mountain.
Only thing to keep in mind is that the facilities towards Everest base camp above the level of Lukla are very basic. The rooms can be cold so you need a proper sleeping bag which was provided by the organization Mountain Mart. Overall it was a great experience to do with my daughters with great views and challenging hikes.

Great Experience, Great company and great Guide and Porter

Just got back from doing the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter return. Highly recommend to anyone, it was amazing. Couldn’t have asked for a better guide (Lochan) and Porter (Dawa) They were so amazing, and took such good care of my wife and I. Unfortunately my wife got altitude sickness the night before base camp. Lochan and Dawa were so very helpful and caring in helping her and making sure she was ok. They were also very flexible with the plans and with the help of Dolakh we were able to take our helicopter return a day earlier.

Would very highly recommend that anyone thinking of doing the trek with Mountain Mart Treks, do it, they were great! Would also recommend to ask for Lochan as your guide! Very knowledgeable and caring!

An Excellent Tour Agency

My girlfriend and I embarked on a 12-14 day independent journey to the Everest Base Camp, without booking through an agency. Along the way, we had the pleasure of meeting Bishal, a guide from the Mountain Mart Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. agency. Although we hadn't officially hired his services and it wasn't his duty, he went above and beyond to assist us in various ways, always ensuring that we had a wonderful experience. It was evident that he carried out his work with passion and a genuine desire to share the beauty of his country with tourists. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Bishal and wish him all the best.

We wholeheartedly recommend anyone considering such a tour to choose this agency, and especially Bishal as your tour guide.

Good experience with a professional guide (DEVI MAGAR)

I went with 4 other friends for the everest base camp trek and our guide was YUKUMAR MAGAR and assistant guide was DEVI MAGAR. I came down with AMS and was swiftly brought down by a helicopter with the assistance of the agency. Communication was relatively good and logistics was not too bad. I would like to highly recommend assistant guide DEVI MAGAR. He was professional throughout the entire trip and very helpful with every step of the way. He spoke good english and is experienced as a guide. He gave us the assurance while trekking and was always kind and sincere in his interaction. If I you are to go for a trek with mountain mart i would highly recommend him.

Sleeping bags provided, coupled with thick blankets provided in the teahouses were sufficient and kept me warm through out. However I dropped out at tengboche, so can't comment about the cold any further than tengboche. My friends who completed EBC mentioned it was vvvvv cold after tengboche. So please prepare good enough a base layer, fleece down and outer shell to keep you sufficient warm. We are from Singapore, so we can't handle cold very much. Don't skim on clothings. Bring enough!! Enjoy to all trekkers, I hope u successfully complete your EBC!

Ask for Ram at Mountain Mart for a brilliant EBC adventure!

Guide Ram Bhandari and his porter team Vola and Bir are just the best! At every stage of the trip, Ram did his absolute best to ensure our Everest Base Camp trek was the most safe, comfortable, enjoyable, smooth and exciting travel experience. Loved our daily fruit platters, Uno games, chats on the trails, explanations of the scenery, smiles, high fives and jokes. Special thanks for an unforgettable experience! I’ll be back!

THESE GUYS ARE PROFESSIONALS

What an amazing experience I had with Mountain Mart Treks & Expedition, from day one the communication with Mr. Dholak was a great, as soon as arrived he was very pending and attentive for me to receive all the information, and help me with my special requests. Even the first day of the tour, when I wasn’t able to fly due to weather, they helped me booking a helicopter flight to get to Lukla on time. My guide Devi was a legend, he knows how to take you off the beaten path in order for you to be a protagonist and not only an spectator during your trek. He is a very knowledgeable, calmed and respectful guide, and is very energetic, if you like to have fun while visiting Nepal, Mountain Mart Treks & Expeditions is your company. What I really enjoyed about their treatment was how respectful it was, up in the mountain Devi would be so careful with detail about my meals, the room, even if I needed a cup of coffee or hot chocolate he would go a get it for you. I’ve been to many places with a lot of guides, but this time, I can label devi and this company within my top 2 tours ever in 35 countries.

We had an amazing week with him as our tour guide, he makes sure to make you feel safe, considered and very well involved with the culture of Nepal. He always took us to clean restaurants, great viewing points, and even got us traditional food or drinks when we had the opportunity.

Unforgettable experience

Well, where do I start!

A1 service from Dolakh and his team!

I was appointed what I would say was the best English speaking guide in Nepal.

I was looked after like Royalty on my trek to EBC. My guide Makar really is the best in the business with over 200 EBC expeditions and fluent English he truly was the best I could hope for! We hit off a great friendship on the trek, what a lovely man, and such patience like no other human being I know.

Thankyou so much for the professionalism and hospitality in every aspect on the trek. From start to finish I would say that MountainMartTreks is the absolute best in the business.

Anyone looking for a good trekking company with great interpersonal skills that cater for English speaking trekkers please be rest assured MountainMartTreks has you fully covered and more!

So the cost?

I booked a solo trip to EBC and was given a group booking rate which was very kind of Dolakh as he knew I was a traveller on a strict budget. This helped me immensely as I booked an all in package which meant i had nothing and i mean nothing to worry about.

I was given 2 nights in the most magnificent hotel in Kathmandu namely, The Everest Boutique Hotel.

Again it was like I was The King of Nepal I promise you these guys have everything covered every little detail! Nothing has been overlooked everything has been finely tuned for you to have the best experience of your life!

Thankyou so much Dolakh and Makar for making my trip to Nepal and EBC the best in the world!

My heart and soul cannot express enough gratitude for the way I was treated in your country and on my magical trip of a lifetime! I just cannot put into words the way I was treated.

Thankyou from the deepest depths of my soul.

Wonderful, tough experience

Did the classic ebc trek (14 days - from November 18) solo with the best guide I could've had. His name is Bishal. Make sure to ask about him if you're looking for someone to take care of you, give you valuable advice, without interferring so much in your own experience. He was very polite and friendly.
The whole journey from booking online, to getting needed information, to checking out was better than I expected.

Make sure you're ready for some tough hiking at times, with warm clothes and meds.

Everest Base Camp Review

We (7 persons) went for a 12-day trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) from 6 -18 Nov. 2022 with Mountain Mart Treks and it was an outstanding experience. From planning to the end of the trip, Dolakh, the owner of Mountain mart Trek was very helpful. We got all the information and help that we need. On the way back, we switched our plan to Helicopter rides and Dolakh was really helpful and arrange everything including the payment. I would highly recommend to use Mountain mart Treks for your adventures in Nepal.

In addition, I would like to have special thanks to our Guides, Ram Bhandari, Prem and Bishal. They are really good in taking care of us and make sure that we have a great experience during the trek and reach our final destination. They help us including carrying our daily backpacks while some of us struggling with the thin air above 4,700 mpdl. Everest Base Camp 12-day Trek - Perfect Service

I didn't know what to expect from Mountain Mart Treks, as I booked at the last moment, but I was more than pleasantly surprised from their service from the moment I stepped out of the airport, to the moment I boarded my plane. I was met by my guide at the airport, with whom I was to spend the next two weeks trekking. The Kathmandu accommodation was very decent, central, and real 3-stars. What I didn't realize that over the next two weeks, I didn't simply receive a mountain guide (Ram Bhandari), but something like a personal assistant, competent advisor, and a friend, all in one. In comparison to other guides that I saw on the trek, Ram was much more energetic, willing to do 'acclimatization' treks, which proved to be key for acclimatization process; always be on time, whenever he is needed; even cooked for me a couple of times, when the lodge's cooks were not available. As in any company, the best asset are it's employees, so in Mountain Mart's case, I can say that people like Ram, really make for a great company. The company's owner was personally and actively involved in ensuring the quality and the best service to be provided, actively seeking feedback. One thing that is good to keep in mind on these treks is that the lodges and hotels up there function a bit like low-cost

Amazing Everest Base Camp April Trek

Just came back from the 13 day Everest base camp trek. It is the most beautiful hike I have ever done, and nothing will parallel the experience of seeing several >8000 m peaks. We highly recommend Mountain Mart and especially our guide, Tilak and porter, Gevan. Tilak went out of his way several times to make us feel comfortable on the hike. He is a very experienced trekking guide, speaks English very well, and knows all of the trails and mountains as if they were his home. In addition, he is very knowledgeable and good at explaining the history of Mt Everest and local Sherpa culture. He was always prepared to give good advise on everything from the best food, to hiking, to altitude sickness. Gevan was a very kind and patient porter, and made sure to adapt to our speed on the hikes we did together. Both were very enthusiastic, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide and porter. We had a problem free hike to base camp, both of us are relatively fit with past above 14k feet hiking experiences but are by no means very fit or very experienced at hiking. We opted to take the helicopter down after reaching base camp, for comfort, as we would have succeeded in the return trip. It was very easy to make this re-accommodation with mountain mart.

Everest Base Camp, the trip of a life time!

I made it to Everest Base Camp and loved the entire trip. Mountain Mart played a pivotal role in making this such a great adventure. The guides they found for us made all the difference in the world.
Our guide, Makar Tamang, is remarkable! I can tell he knew what makes a great adventure even better. He knew every mountain and its specifications, he knew all the local culture and customs and explained them so clearly, he knew what to suggest and what to avoid, he completely understands customer service, his English was amazing, he knew all the right people to get the special orders or service, and he knew the little extras that made it special. Most impressive is who he is, Makar is kind, patient, humble, helpful, FUN, bright, eager, careful, encouraging, and consistent.
Gorka Tamang, our assistant guide was always out front keeping the perfect pace and making sure we were safe and enjoyed the journey. Both the guides and my son had a blast together laughing, singing, sharing and playing around.
There is no way to perfectly describe the views you will see on this journey from the lush green and magical waterfalls of the lower section to the powerful majestic views of the mountains and vistas of the upper section.
This trip will change your life and this country and its people will steal a piece of your soul.
Thank you Dolakh for organizing such a wonderful adventure!

EBC trek: unforgettable experience thanks to highly experienced professionals

We did a 12 days EBC Trek on October 2021 in a private group of 3. It was a great experience! The trek was perfectly organized, the lodges were good and clean, according to our requests, meals always good and with several options, and we had an amazing team: our guide Bhoj did everything to make us feel at home, he was available 24/7 and took care of all our needs. The assistants, among which Milan, were also nice and super helpful. The team gave us great comfort in challenging times (especially at high altitude, when we were tired and the trek was more difficult). Needless to say, the trek itself was SUPERB! Amazing and varied landscapes, and the emotion to get to EBC was unbelievable!!!! We were impressed by these professionals and loved all local people we met during our stay in Solukhumbu region.

Thanks for making our experience unforgettable! ❤

We definitely recommend Mountain Mart to all people willing to make it to EBC and ti enjoy the Himalaya!

My girlfriend and I had the Everest Base Camp (EBC) - 12 days trek on our bucket list for awhile and had a difficult time deciding which company to use. We emailed a handful of trekking companies and Mountain Mart were the first to respond. They answered all our questions in a timely manner.

A day before our trek, we had a debrief at the office in Kathmandu. They explained the itinerary, broken day by day - offered any gear we might’ve needed and did not bring (e.g. trekking poles and sleeping bags). They provided duffel bags to be carried by the porters throughout the trek. The duffel bag should include clothes needed for duration of the trek. Thus, your trekking backpack (about 42L) is not needed. However, your day bag (about 20L) is highly recommended. The day bag should hold your essentials during the day such as camera, medicine, water bottles, etc. We also met our awesome trek guide, Nabin.

Throughout our trek, Nabin was super attentive and accommodating. He consistently checked up on us to make sure we didn’t develop acute mountain sickness (AMS). He also provided complementary fruits everyday after dinner. Nabin didn’t rush us and made sure we’re walking at a comfortable pace. Every night after dinner, he would check our heart rate and oxygen level to make sure we weren’t getting sick. If you are fortunate enough to have Nabin as your trek guide, ask him about his life story and his perspective on the Nepali culture.

I highly recommend Mountain Mart and Nabin for your EBC trek. We plan to do the Gokyo trek in the near future and will definitely use this company again.

P.S. we booked our trip online in our home country, USA. We paid 20% deposit online and the remaining balance in person.

Everest Base Camp Trek

Overall I am very impressed with MMT. The CEO Dolakh was very helpful prior to the trip and once I arrived in Kathmandu everything was taken care of. I was met at the airport, taken to my hotel and taken on an informative city tour. On the trek itself I can't even begin to explain how wonderful my guide Bhoj was. He also took care of everything. He was extremely kind, very very patient, helpful when I was feeling ill, knowledgeable about the area and terrain and was always enthusiastic and cheerful. On the last day of the trek I felt like giving up but he kept my spirits up and even carried my backpack for me. Our porter Chandra was also a hero, carrying all that luggage, always with a smile on his face. I would definately trek with Bhoj at MMT again.

Kala Patthar trekking

I booked the 11 days Classic Himalaya Kala Patthar/EBC, solo trekking with guide. Since, this was booked for an odd date, when they were not offering the trip, I paid extra, like $160, but I guess that was ok.
Dolakh, the company manager was answering in real time to my texts, and he was helpful. Along the trekking pathway, I met people who were not happy with their trekking company, so I guess Mountain Mart stands apart, by honoring their agreement.

However, very important was my guide, and porter, Bishal. He was attentive, helpful, and respectful. Plus, he carried most of the weight.
I was supposed to do the 11 days trip, with one day accomodation, but I ended up skipping that.( I did take dexamethasone, and acetazolomide, though, for prophylaxis).
At Kala Patthar, and EBC, is really cold, so I ended up with acute bronchitis, and epistaxis. Even my guide, Bishal, ended up with a cold/bronchitis, and we both took antibiotics.

On the way back, I decided to do two days in one, since I had health concerns. Bishal was attentive, and accomodating to my requests. We ended up marching from 7.30 AM to 8 PM, 33 km in one day, so overall, my Himalaya trekking trip to EBC, and back, took 9 days, without helicopter.
If I were to go to Himalayas again, I would recommend Mountain Mart, and definitely my guide Bishal.

Classic Everest Base Camp Trek Trip Overview

Classic Everest Base Camp Trek 14 days is one of the finest treks which offers a great opportunity to witness the gleaming mountains, surging rivers, turquoise lakes, and as well as to explore culture, tradition, architecture, monuments, heritage sites, and religious sites of Khumbu valley. It also gives an opportunity to explore the religious significance, traditional lifestyle, cultural-religious confluence of the mysterious region. The trek is moderate to strenuous and is tailored by MMT adventure expert with AMS friendly itinerary; this EBC Trek is appropriate for the novice as well as the veteran trekkers who prefer trekking in Nepal.

While booking your Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, it is important to understand the personal expenses that are not included in the standard trekking package cost. The trek in the legendary Everest region is a remote high-altitude adventure, and daily personal spending depends on your comfort level and lifestyle.

Below is a clear breakdown of personal expenses for the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek to help you plan your trekking budget properly.

1. Drinks & Beverages

Hot drinks and bottled items become more expensive as you ascend toward higher elevations like Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

  • Tea / Coffee: USD 2–5 per cup

  • Hot Lemon / Ginger Tea: USD 3–5

  • Bottled Water: USD 2–5 (price increases with altitude)

  • Soft Drinks: USD 3–5

  • Beer: USD 6–10

Tip: Carry a reusable water bottle and water purification tablets to reduce daily costs and plastic waste.

2. Battery Charging & Wi-Fi

In villages like Lukla and Namche Bazaar, lodges charge extra for electricity and internet services.

  • Mobile charging: USD 2–6 per device

  • Power bank charging: USD 3–6

  • Wi-Fi internet: USD 3–8

Electricity is limited inside Sagarmatha National Park, so expect higher prices as you reach Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep.

Facilities become more basic at higher altitudes.

  • Hot shower: USD 4–8 per use

  • Laundry service (limited availability): USD 5–10

  • Extra blankets (in some lodges): small additional fee

As you approach Everest Base Camp, prices increase due to transportation costs and limited resources.

Snacks are available along the trail but cost more than in Kathmandu.

  • Chocolate / Energy Bars: USD 2–5

  • Biscuits / Chips: USD 2–4

  • Toiletries (if purchased on trek): higher than Kathmandu prices

It is highly recommended to buy snacks and personal supplies in Kathmandu before flying to Lukla.

5. Tips for Guide & Porter

  • Guide: USD 10–15 per day (group basis)

  • Porter: USD 7–10 per day

Tips depend on service quality, group size, and overall satisfaction.

Estimated Daily Personal Budget

On average, trekkers should budget:

👉 USD 15–30 per day for personal expenses
👉 More if consuming alcoholic drinks or using Wi-Fi frequently

Important Budget Tips for Classic Everest Base Camp Trek

✔️ Carry enough Nepali cash (ATMs are only available in Lukla and Namche)
✔️ Prices increase with altitude
✔️ Avoid unnecessary bottled water purchases
✔️ Plan personal spending in advance

Personal expenses on the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek are manageable with proper budgeting. Since this is a remote Himalayan trekking route, goods are transported by porters, mules, or yaks, which increases prices at higher elevations.

This world-famous high-altitude trek in the Everest region reaches 5,364m at Everest Base Camp and 5,545m at Kala Patthar, making experienced local support essential.

Reliable transport service for the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek is a crucial part of your overall trekking arrangement in the Everest region. Since this iconic trek begins with access to the remote mountain airstrip of Lukla, proper flight and ground transportation planning ensures a smooth and stress-free Himalayan adventure.

Kathmandu to Lukla Flight

The most common and fastest way to begin the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek is a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,845m).

Flight Duration: 30–35 minutes
Airlines: Domestic Nepal airlines operating daily flights (weather permitting)
Best For: Saving time and enjoying spectacular Himalayan aerial views

During peak trekking seasons (spring and autumn), flights may operate from Ramechhap Airport instead of Kathmandu due to air traffic management.

Lukla Airport, officially known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, is the main gateway to the Everest region and the starting point of the Everest Base Camp trail.

Helicopter Charter Option

For trekkers seeking comfort or facing flight delays, a helicopter charter to Lukla is a premium and reliable transport option.

Advantages:

✔️ Flexible departure timing
✔️ Faster access to the Everest region
✔️ Ideal for groups or luxury trekkers
✔️ Operates in limited weather windows

Helicopter service is also used for emergency evacuation during the trek if required.

Private Vehicle Service in Kathmandu

Before and after your trek, transportation services typically include:

  • International airport pick-up and drop-off

  • Hotel transfers in Kathmandu

  • Private sightseeing transport (if required)

Comfortable private tourist vehicles are arranged and managed by your trekking agency for a smooth city transfer experience.

Alternative Route via Salleri or Phaplu (Optional)

Some trekkers choose to avoid Lukla flights by taking a road journey from Kathmandu to Salleri or Phaplu and then trekking to Lukla.

This option:

  • Reduces flight dependency

  • Adds extra trekking days

  • Is more budget-friendly

However, it requires additional time and physical endurance.

Important Transport Tips for Classic Everest Base Camp Trek

✔️ Flights to Lukla are highly weather-dependent
✔️ Keep 1–2 buffer days in your itinerary
✔️ Book flights early during peak season
✔️ Travel light due to flight baggage limits (usually 15 kg total including hand carry)
✔️ Be flexible with schedule changes

Trip Reviews (40)
